Immediately after Installation

We recommend allocating a special Windows "FormTrap User account". Reasons for this are here Notes on writing to network drives.

New (first time) Installation

  • [Your Name] FormTrap Enterprise Server v8.xx is a .zip that unzips to setup.exe. Install software, this automatically installs FTClient in the same folder. DO NOT START.

    If you require additional copies of FTClient on your network, please unzip [Your Name] FTClient (also unzips to setup.exe) and press HERE to review additional installations of FTClient. If your company policy is not to allow the FormTrap Server to have web access, see below.

    If you have any use of V7 Forms on your system, you must install GhostScript to ALL computers with any FormTrap component. You MUST reboot immediately after installing Ghost Script, if you do not, FormTrap will not work.

    If your FormTrap Server computer does not allow web access (required for FormTrap to register), please install FTClient on another computer, inside the fire wall, with access to the FormTrap Server computer and with access to the Web (for manual pages).
  • Start FormTrap Server (Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, FormTrap Server, this automatically starts FireBird Service).

    FormTrap now registers, this process takes a couple of seconds. If the computer running FormTrap Service does not have web access, you will be told at the next step.

    Start FTClient, the screen will show your organization name and the number of printers with your FormTrap Server. Any error here means failure to register, send file ..\fthome\v7\ftspooler-debug.txt to Support@FormTrap.com with the error message. FormTrap support will return you the file normally generated by the FormTrap registration with instructions.

Move V8 Installation to a NEW Computer

If the version you are running is not current, please request the current version from Support@FormTrap.com and install this on the new computer version.

You must, repeat MUST inform and have a reply from Support@FormTrap.com before moving FormTrap Server V8 to a new Computer.

Update to number of Printers or other minor modifications


Version 8.8 and prior:

We require you to update your FormTrap Server version in concert with the increase in printers, email Support@FormTrap.com for details.

Version 8.9 and later:

The (FormTrap Solutions) Registration Server is updated to the new number of servers. You should:

  • Stop FormTrap Server.
  • Delete this file: ..\fthome\v7\ftform8.id (forces re-registation the next time FormTrap Server is started).
  • Start FormTrap Server. When you start FTClient, you will either get an error message - in which case return the message and file ..\fthome\v7\ftspooler-debug.txt to us (we will manually register your software), or will see the amended number of printers in the FTClient header.

Upgrade from Version 7.x to Version 8.xx on a different computer (normally moving from Windows 2003 server to Windows 2008 through 2016 server).

  • FormTrap Enterprise Server v8.xx is a .zip that unzips to setup.exe. Install software, this automatically installs FTClient in the same folder. DO NOT START.

    Copy the "old" system folder ..\fthome\v7 to the "new" system. Delete file ..\fthome\v7\ftform8.id, if it is there. All following instructions are for "new".

Security

Version 8 FormTrap Server registers to allow one of these modes at your site: trial (limit 30 days), purchase, rental or pay-per-document-formatted. Most software is installed so that it checks back to the FormTrap Control Server once only (in some areas, the server will check back more frequently). Rental and Pay-per-document-formatted also check back at least monthly.

The results are shown in Setup, Software as a service. Trial can be converted to purchase or to any of the other methods should you decide you like and want to keep the software.

With the exception of Pay-per-document-formatted, you must inform Support@FormTrap.com ahead of time if you want to reinstall the software on another machine otherwise the software on the new machine fails. We will respond and tell you when it is OK to reinstall the software.
