What is a Queue
The queue is central to FormTrap Server, and is where your data
files are processed which includes formatting, delivery and logging
to the fail-safe archive. Each queue name is also a folder in %fthome%
(normally ..\fthome\v7\input\).
These are comments on queues:
- Version 8 structures are more efficient and requires less queues
and re-directions than the equivalent Version 7 queue structure.
Version 8 Formatting identifies documents via the form definition and allows splitting to individual documents as part of the Process tab. This in combination with prioritized delivery tags removes most requirements for hand-off to other queues, meaning you can run with just the one queue per destination printer, just the one queue for processing, and possibly a couple for duplication and alternate delivery.
Processing in one queue is facilitated by the option to delay formatting until delivery, meaning Print can format print, while Email can format PDFs where the document is emailed. - Version 7 formatting is more complex and requires:
- Split rules allow file identification and
optional splitting into individual documents.
- Identified documents or files may be formatted using a
particular form within a Queue. Identified
documents or files may also be redirected to other
queues for further processing, with no practical limit on the
number of re-directions.
- Delivery processes may output your formatted document
by fax or email or to a printer, with the address of the output
being formed dynamically, or as an attribute of the queue.
- For Version 7 the common delivery processes normally do not overlap, so "short cut" queue definitions are provided for print and email as well as identification queues.
Confirmation of Queue Parameters Change
Making changes on any Queue Properties without clicking on the Apply button will produce the pop up confirmation window. You also need to decide on the Future behavior: Keep displaying this window, Do not display this window, instead save changes, or Do not display this window, and do not save changes.
Alternatively, the Save changes option can be configured in the User Interface under Setup, Settings tab.
